Void Restaurant

Void restaurant poses a stark contrast to the rest of the site, incorporating darker tones that encapsulate the audience within the space and allow for a unique dining experience that can be understood as separate from the education-focused spaces.
It intends to align with the darker materiality and industrial feel of White Bay Power Station to allow a moment of appreciation for the existing building before moving throughout the rest of the spaces. Which focus on materiality creating new experiences and atmospheres which align the audience towards the new ideas and learning intended to occur there.

Level 0 provides restaurant and cafe-like spaces that have varying levels of engagement and choice in seating. Creating enclosed secure pods, that consume the viewer, contrasted against the exposed seating at the base of the oculus. All are surrounded by banquette seating that allows people to exist in the space without necessarily using the space as a restaurant, instead passively activating the floor as a community space that functions, ultimately for them.

The detailing combines curved banquette seating that recedes into the floor, creating the sense that the seating is floating and mirroring the same curve in the top cap allows it to bleed back into the metal shell. Layering the backrest of the seat with further curves to soften the shape and add a more human scale to the space.
Curved entry sides are then applied to cover the edges of the banquette, mirroring the created design language and exaggerating entry to the interior dining experience,
